Description

The blood–brain barrier (BBB) is a highly selective, semipermeable barrier formed by endothelial cells that controls the movement of solutes and other substances between the bloodstream and the central nervous system. By regulating this exchange, the BBB helps protect the brain from potentially harmful or unwanted compounds circulating in the blood.
